Tire Chain Size Question

682 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  PowerRed210
I need to get a set of chains for a new (used) tractor I got and I found two different chain thicknesses offered for the big wheel case tractors. I am going with the two link chains. There is medium duty with .207 cross chain and heavy duty with .312 cross chain. Can anybody speak from experience if the heavy duty chains with the .312 thickness worth the extra cost? Would the larger chain provide any better traction?

For these garden tractors, the medium duty are quite sufficient.

I forgot to mention that I plan on running 140lbs of wheel weights on each rear wheel and if needed an additional 75 lbs or so in a weight box on the back. Would the medium duty still be sufficient with this weight?

Yep ... they'll wear for decades on concrete still ...

Thanks Brian, looks like I will get the medium duty chains and save myself some money.
