Battery in my 2006 XL is getting weak. Having trouble finding a replacement.

Original part # is 1722843 but has been superceeded by 1686714SM.

Most of the online parts places list it as obsolete.

Don't really want to pay dealer prices, anyone have any luck finding it online somewhere?

Take it to a good auto parts store, they probably have one in stock, or can get it in a day.

That does seem like an odd size. If it's any help, this company lists an XL battery as a group 51R:

I had the same problem finding a Sunstar battery, but after measuring the space carefully, I found Walmart had a couple that would fit and they were Johnson Control batteries at not too bad a price...compared to other places, not compared to what I thought they should cost!

Here is Walmart's 51R: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Everstart-51R-4-Automotive-Battery/16795230

It is about $85. around here (KY).

Group 51 is the closest based on dimensions (think older Honda/ Acura), I'll take G-1 word about the R (reverse terminals). Most places should have one, just make sure to buy a decent quality like Excide or the Costco branded ones are really good.

Check with Batterys plus.
51R was what came in the old LL's and Sovereign's as well. I buy Exide from TSC for around $70, minus $10 with your core, and sometimes 15% off with a coupon theysend me in the mail. I've had great life from those

Thanks all,

Well, I found a decent battery at my local Farm & Fleet store. Kinda weird though, I wanted to buy their best quality battery (7-year), and they had a battery that was the exact same dimensions and was 500 CCA, but the positive and negative terminals were reversed from I needed. I didn't pay attention to the group #, but it was probably the Group 51R that you mention.

They did have a (6-year) battery that was the exact same dimensions I needed, and had the positive/negative terminals on the correct side.

The 6-year battery was only 450 CCA though and it didn't list the RC #. I ended up buying it cause I just didn't have the time to keep looking all over town. It was a group 51G. Hopefully the small drop in the CCA won't have too much of an affect.

I'm thinking Simplicity had a special battery made just so people had to buy the batteries from them, but now that they've discontinued selling them, we're on our own to find something that will work.

The original battery is just like the 51R, but has the Positive terminal on the left side???

Anyway, price wasn't too bad, $69.95 with my old battery as a core.

The original battery lasted almost 7-years, hopefully I can 5-6 years out of this new one.

Thanks for the help!
