This weekends find (part II)

Thanks to a tip from Bolly I managed to grab a 6279. It was listed for sale on Saturday but we didn't connect until tonight. It's a little rough around the edges but runs good when warm. The carb needs a good cleaning, and the plastic flywheel screen and air filter cover are missing. I should have pictures tomorrow.

woooohoooo!! :fing32:
oh yeah its tomorrow!!!
Here's a few pics. I think a PO changed the engine as the F200 sticker is now planted on the shroud rather then the recoil, and it has a rectangular air filter housing. Both my 6280's have round orange air filter housings and I imagine the 6279 should also have the round orange type. But that's all cosmetic stuff, the main thing is to have the deck, which happens to look the same as my 6280's although I haven't done a side by side comparison. The 6279 has adjustable push handle brackets, which the 6280 does not, but the 6280 has a more rigid handle style and mount. The PO cut the centre in the top of the engine shroud so he could use a cordless drill with a bit for an electric start. :banghead3

cool mower! thanks for the pics. I have never seen one of these in person.

The electric drill bit can just add to the history of this mower! Kinda fun sometimes to leave them "as modified" Cool story
Thats a nice machine, Good find. I have the same model but i am still looking for a deck for it. The 6279 came with the plastic carb and i assume the 6280 came with a metal carb.
she's not too bad at all Tom!!

dunno if my 6280's is original but it has a metal carb

Right you are about the carbs imaLawnBoyFreak.

The original 6279 and 6280 decks had different part numbers, but PartsTree now shows the replacement decks having the same part numbers with one new part number superseding the two different numbers.

hopefully the tank cleans up some Tom, mine did
I noticed they are 2 different decks, they look just about the same to me. Ill take either one if i find it...
You guys from Canada have access to some very unique and good looking Lawnboys. Keep it up!!!
Lots of LB's around here. How could you go wrong with a population of over 5 million in the Greater Toronto Area; they just keep falling out of the sky!! And there are probably hundreds, no thousands, of property maintenance companies so the supply of used commercial mowers of all colours is almost endless. However it's hard to find them at a reasonable (read inexpensive) price!

My 6279 has the same rectangular filter housing.

Thx for the confirmation theCOOP. I was thinking that with the F200 tag moved and the std looking green air filter box that someone changed the engine from a residential model, but it would seem that's not the case.
cool mower for sure
get a chance to take her for a rip Tom?
No not yet. Got tied up last week with my garden tractors. I bought a Gravely 812, and I'm getting my Case 220 Powerking w/snowcaster and an Ingersoll SB48 snowblower for Ingersoll 40xx garden tractors ready to sell. I want to try the 6279 this week but I really need to clean the carb so it'll run properly. If I don't get to it, it'll end up being next year. After the Case/Ingersoll stuff I have to transplant an engine onto my Snapper 21350 as I want to try it for leaf pickup.

PS. Yesterday at a fleamarket I picked up a nice commercial tank complete w/mounting bracket, fuel shut-off, and fuel lid. The seller wanted $3, I had a $20 bill but he didn't have change, so he took my ~$1.63 in change. Good deal I thought.

OK Bolly, I was feeling guilty and it was such a nice day out there today I gave the 6279 a new fuel line, fuel filter, spark plug, grabber green paint on the deck where someone had applied some yellow, new air filter cover, cleaned the carb and CDI, sharpened the almost new blade, and some new fuel. It started on the first pull and runs like a charm with the 110psi compression. Took it out to cut the lawn. Wow, does it ever cut nice. Seems like that side shoot discharge design throws the grass a mile!! That's the first time I've ever used a square deck LB in 25+ years of using LB's and it cuts very nice. What is it about the LB's that makes the grass look like a carpet after it's been cut? The bald wheels, the deck design, the blades, the 2 stroke power and RPM's? Inquiring minds need to know. :drunkie:

It's almost like a tornado comin out that chute, w00t!

seems a buck 63 for a tank and mount is real cheap to me, LOL!
