Heard a growl, then bang and this came out from under my 1053 , was wonderin if it can be used without it,plan on using it for snow removal

Looks like part of the brake assembly,may make shifting a problem,driveshaft will keep spinning

That is parking brake drum, also part of main drive worm shaft, now why did it break ? My two cents.

Dunno what caused it to break,looking at the shaft it must have been cracked for a while because only the center is clean metal the outer edges are oil stained

You'll need to replace the shaft that broke. I think I have one, PM me if you're interested.
