The wife said that with the yard and house projects we have coming up, and because I'm becoming an old fart (68), I should upgrade the X580 to whatever I want. :tango_face_surprise

So................. I have just ordered an X738 with a 54" quick attach blade, 48" deck (to fit through my gates), 3 point hitch (Thanks Sarge), click and go brackets, and a bunch of other stuff. The tractor should be delivered around the first of the month, just before I go on vacation.

I thought this would be a good time to make the purchase with the sale that just ended and 0% for 5 years. I can retire in style, and no, I don't want 4 wheel steering.

So off goes my beloved X580 with everything imaginable on it, paid off by the dealer. I loved that tractor and it did the job. But..... it doesn't have those wicked cool wheels or wicked cushy seat.

And did anyone know that if you have a brush guard on the X738 that it has to be taken off if you put on the front quick attach??:tango_face_sad:

Oh yeah, but you won’t break that pretty plastic hood. The worst is that the release is sticky and of course the release bar is right in line with one of the cross members so your fingers can’t get at it very easily. Oh the worst part is getting it released after the filters plug with the fuzzy stuff from dandelions or poplar trees or whatever which makes the tractor overheat. Of course you can’t get the screen in front of the radiator out unless you open the hood, which means, you guessed it, the brush guard has to be released and tilted forward so you can open the hood. All this while the hood is too hot to touch and the only way to get it cooled down is to wait forever or clean the screens and run it. Now that I’ve said all that, I wouldn’t be without it and I need to add a couple of straps to that release bar so it’s easier to pull.

You will enjoy yourself a ton on it, but that vacation will last forever. :tango_face_grin: And yes, you will love that seat and believe it or not, the weight of the machine makes the ride really nice and it holds to the side of the slopes better too, I know hard to believe, but it does. Enjoy! I don’t think you will be disappointed and missing the X580 for long. I got mine at almost the same age.

Congratulations, I can wait to see the pictures. Its amazing how much wives loves their husbands.

A neighbor was selling her nice 2015 black bmw 740Li with low mileage the other day and my wife says to me she would buy it for me for my birthday.

I just took delivery of an X758. Haven’t done much with it yet, but it is a very Nevis looking machine.

One question, why gas vs diesel? I asked my delivery guy if they sold many x758s and he said no, most people buy the gas x738 and x739. I am just wondering why that is the cast?

I think the simple reason is going into the price issue on the diesels. You are easily at $1100.00 for the Diesel engine in the X758 in comparison to the X738. The whole thing is the X758 is the top of the line for Deere garden tractors but the X738 is still a really great garden tractor with the same frame.

For some folks the issue of maintenance comes into play also in the fact that a lot of owners on this site are familiar with what it takes to keep a gasoline engine running and what needs to be done for them. Diesel engines are more sensitive to having good clean air and fuel to prevent expensive repairs to the injection system and engines. As I am in my 60's also and was a vehicle line mechanic for ten years when I was younger, like from 17 years old until I retrained into aircraft when I was 27 in the Air Force. Maintaining either type of engine is fairly easy for me and I have both a JD 2305 with the Diesel engine and a X590 with a gas engine I can easily do all the maintenance on them.

I can only say since I really needed a lighter garden tractor for my 5 acres in the wet springs we have here I need something strong and durable but lighter then the 2305 which is pushing 2,000 pounds if I have all the attachments. At around 800 pounds with the X590 it is the spring mower.

I can only say to the original poster I am happy you got what you got and I hope see some pictures of the new X739 on this thread.

I am not trying to be disrespectful or anything, I am just wondering why.

When I asked the delivery man why the x739 vs the x758 he had said the cost. I figured there might be some stigma with regards to the diesel engine vs the gas powered engine.

I don't have much experience with diesel engines, but my father has an old John Deere (an early 80's 950) and a 2001 New Holland. I know the John Deere can sit for over a year and start right up (with a proper battery charge).

:sidelaugh:sidelaugh I don't know your wife but I don't think that's gonna work, and my backfire. Just like when you told your best friend in school to tell that girl you liked that you like her. :tango_face_wink:

She asked if I needed any attachments, so of course I said yes.

Found a grapple for the front of the tractor that fits into the quick hitch. It's very impressive and would be the answer for clearing my back 1/2 acre.

As impressive as they might be, take a look at the CTC loader for your new tractor. Not sure if they have a grapple for their bucket, that would make it even more awesome.
