The wife made a decision:

Earlier this year we bought a John Deere 4720 cab. The 4720 has R1 tires. Therefore it is useless to bring it anywhere near a lawn or grass area. So now the task is to mow around the three ponds (1.5 acre, 1+ acre and 0.5 acre), all with trees and grass around them, as well as the house which also has trees and grass around it. I originally wanted to buy the John Deere x749 with a 60in mid-mount mower. But then I was attracted to the Kubota B3030HSDCC (air-conditioned cab, no mosquito bites). Or the John Deere 3720 cab. Both come with a 72in mid-mount mower.

But my wife said: NO! We spent enough money this year on tractors.:Disgus:

So on Monday I will call my John Deere dealer to order an LA175 with a 54in mid-mount mower. :(

I would look at getting someting up a level. You will not be happy with that model coming from your other unit. :greendr:

Fritz,

This is stereotypical. Wives have a way of damping our parties. Who would have thought "I DO" included this! :crybaby: Anyway, I hate to admit it, Mrs. Fritz is probably right. A 4720 and a 3720 in the same quarter of the same year is probably too much! :fing20:

Wives? They sure can spoil some of our dreams :ROF but hey... I have to admit I would be flat broke if it were not for my wife pulling back on my reins at times. Since most of our MTF crew is so good at spending other people's money I want to at least take a parting shot and recommend at least a JDX500 that will have the get up and go and will last you a long time with the mowing duties. It is also rated as a GT not a LT. Best of luck. :fing32:

Im going to take the other tack... Being you have a big, do it all tractor, all you realy need is a mower. I bet that little LA will work fine for you, and save you a few bucks over the bigger GT's.
Many years back, my wife was speaking at a woman's conference south of Chicago. We rented a room at the hotel and our late son and I enjoyed the pool in the morning of her talk. We were bored in the afternoon so we climbed in the car and went exploring. Man, did we hit pay dirt.

There was a Harley dealer nearby so we picked up some brochures and stopped at a 7-11 on the way back to load up on necessities like Coke and Pringles. Along the way we picked up a wooden dinosaur skeleton kit for David to build.

When we got to the hotel we found a seat in the back of an open dining room and sat down to enjoy our loot. About 15 minutes into our bliss, a lady came up and asked "What are you doing here?" I explained that my wife was one of the speakers and we were waiting for her to finish. SHe asked "Why are you reading motorcycle literature, I NEVER LET MY HUSBAND READ ANY OF THAT KIND OF STUFF. Then she launched into a diatribe about Coke and Pringles.

That was it. I looked at her and her husband(kind of a dorky guy sheepishly standing behind her) and said, WELL I DON'T TELL MY WIFE WHAT TO DO WITH WHAT SHE EARNS AND I DON'T ASK HER WHAT TO DO WITH WHAT I EARN. Her husband looked dumbfounded as they walked away. All David asked was "Who was that nosy lady?"

My Ex-wife see what I spend and it still PO's her that she is unable to control me and that I am happy without her.
Stop mowing the lawn. Simple. Effective.
Wow, it sounds like I am not the only one. I brought home a Massey Ferguson 65 Diesel high crop. I think before I even got it unloaded she said "That isn't staying here". Well it finally came out about how she feels about my tractor collecting.

So now I am just trying to figure out another hobby that will be so much better. The tractor collecting kept me sane, and somewhat grounded. It also kept me out of trouble.

By the way, anyone around RI need any parts or projects? I am going to clean house, sell off all of the stuff, then go buy something really obnoxious. I am thinking along the lines of a unimog......

Does any of it run?

My wife will not let me keep an NON-RUNNING equipment on the farm anymore...the upside is she now ignores the repair bills from the dealers...:D

That is the worst part, the only one not currently running is an allis chalmers B due only to the fact that I am not going to outlay any money on it. All others run strong, and actually look decent as well.

If you can afford it, I recommend trading up to a higher performance, later model too. :sidelaugh THEN maybe a different tractor.

Come on guys, without wifes.... I don't want to go there.

You could get yourself a herd of goats to keep the grass mowed. Within a few weeks the wife would be driving you to the dealership. :thThumbsU

Seriously, I would probably pick up a used mower off of Craigslist for less than $300 to use for this season. At the start of next season, put it back on Criagslist and sale it for $300 and then go and buy the mower that you really want.
