Tell Me All that You Can do with a 54" Quick Hitch Front Blade

Thinking of getting a front 54" blade if I trade for the x728. It would just be a 2 way for $400. Seem reasonable? I already have a blower, and have only thought a blade would be handy in the winter once or twice. I thought of using it for pushing some weeds in an overgrown area, then smoothing it out. Tell me more uses to determine if its a justifiable buy...:thanku:

I have the 54" blade for the 455. it is the same plow just a diff. mount. so anyhow it pushes well, we had over 20" of snow in one day and the plow pushed it like there was 3" of snow. i have a really steep and long gravel driveway that i plow and it does great. I would spend the extra money to get the 4 way. but why are you thinking of getting rid of your 2320???

The price is good, the 4 way is definately the way to go for snow removal... But with you already having the blower, you may be OK... Having had both a 2 way and a 4 way, I'd definately get a 4 way, but that was my only way to move snow.
Push stuff, push stuff and push more stuff!!!! This weekend we've seen rolling logs, pushing leaves out of the way, and moving snow. Could also be used to push & level dirt and gravel, sand etc... Just thought of another use -- pushing/rolling large trash cans that are filled with stuff (compost anyway...). Sorry, long story but my wife makes compost in trash cans and they need to be rolled around so often to mix them up. She hasn't been doing it, so it's been my job. I didn't try with th e X300, but within a week I ttried doing it with the X500!!! Unfortunately the bumper is high and crushes the can and spills the stuff all over, YUCK! A front blade would be perfect for rolling the cans up and down the hill!!! Hmmmmm, maybe that'll be my argument tomorrow morning that will convince her that I really do need a front blade! :praying:

Oh, that's what I'd do with a 48" blade and you wanted to know about the 54".... :fing20:

The blade can obviously be used for snow, effectively, but beyond that, it can be used for mild digging, back dragging, pushing and back dragging gravel etc.

:ditto::ditto: and the 4 way is really a nice feature to have when it's cold out you don't need to move/angle it manually which makes it quicker. slkpk

Thanks guys. Wizzo, I had just thought about stirring the compost pile, we started yesterday, with a blade this morning. I am confident the 2 way will be ok. If it was my only way to move snow, then a 4 way for sure. Also, my dealer is really liking the tractor shovel on these x7's. So, I would be half way there if I ever got one for mulch, loose material, etc. And Jfoi, I have talked about the trade in other posts, but it boils down to a couple things, time being the first. To accomplish the brush hogging, loader work, etc., and save time, I really need a bigger machine, and thats not in the cards! It takes me too long to hog, and too many trips with the FEL. Also, the 2320, in my opinion, is very capable but not the best mower. It rides rough, and the cut of the 62d is only fair. Plus I have had to assume care taker duties at 2 of my grandparents homes, and step up a bit at my MIL's house which is 2 hours away. Oh how time is NOT on our side!:fing20:

I have a 2305 with the 4 way 54 blade; I'm really impressed by the work I can accomplish. The Snow hasn’t flown yet but the work it’s done in rock gravel, and dirt snow will be no obstacle.

I had the exact same thought of being half way there with a scoop since I really don’t have a need for a loader. I looked into the front scoop but I read some place the scoop is not recommended with the SCUT. Not really sure why it wouldn’t be recommended it’s the same blade and can’t imagine the quick hitch for a 700 series would be heavier
duty than for a 2000 series. Any Ideas?

Here's some work I've done with the blade...

Looks great. Sorry no idea on the anti tractor shovel for the 2305. It doesn't make sense to me either. I would love to have a Gravely G someday...and of course a John Deere 318, Cub Cadet 1811, Bolens Eliminator...:fing32:

I love my 20 G, the quality of the mowers cut is un rivaled. I wouldn’t have invested in the 2305 but my terrain is too steep for the 20G. Funny you mentioned the Bolen's, my dad use to have a 1900 Eliminator with a 48 deck and a Sweepster broom on the front.

Right now I can't do anything with it until I fix the flat and get a battery for the 140H3. Here's what I used it for last year (scraping down to the pavement after snowblowing):

I use it for pushing logs, pushing loose wood pieces, pushing snow, pushing leaves, pushing dirt, (sound a lot like "Forest Gump and shrimpin' doesn't it :ROF!!) pushing gravel, pushing other tractors, digging, leveling, lifting loads strapped to it, chasing moles (they seem pretty scared of it!), and lifting the front of the tractor!

Chasing moles???? :sidelaugh
I wonder what they'd think if that blower was after them instead of the blade...
I don't know but I'm thinking we have the beginnings of the next Warner Bros. cartoon in the works here!
Moles! Sounds like more fun than me and my neighbor standing in wait with pitch forks!:fing32:

I have been there. I always seem to kill them, but the body never shows up.
