I've been searching now for 2 or 3 hours. Has anybody actually installed a sunstar snow blower on a older legacy? I've looked at pics of the hitch from both machines, and I can't see any differences. I just bought a 2002 legacy and have found a single stage blower from a sunstar. Going to install the blower on my old legacy and sell the 918 agco setup I have. How about the PTO shaft? Will it slide on the legacy? Can't find this info.

Thanks

Thanks John, I looked them both up and the hitches look very similar, and have the same part numbers according to partstree. I'm going to pick up the blower this weekend. We shall see.

Well got home with the blower a few hours ago, to my distress it was only a 42" blower. However it mounted right up to the legacy with NO modifications. Lifting the blower will be another story. The lift arm will NOT work on the legacy and I don't have a clue how the lift arm is supposed to look. I'm going to try and find the manual for a 46" blower and see what the lifting arm looks like, and where it attaches. I have been out there looking it over and figure I can use a 5/16 cable with a couple idlers to lift the blower as it is pretty heavy, I don't think there will be a problem with it ridding up. I'd like to modify a blade I picked up a while back and need to be able to raise and lower it too, but I want to be able to put some down pressure on it so I've got some fabricating to do. Anybody have a link to the blower manual for a legacy?

Thanks Charlie

The rocker shaft on a legacy is almost center of the mower deck. I looked at the guys sunstar when I was up there. Looks to me like the linkage in the sunstar runs thru the inside of the frame next to the engine. Can't do that on the legacy. I've been out studing my choices, looks like I maybe able to make a bracket that pivots off the front axle where the mower attaches to and run a short clevis rod to it and use a longer clevis rod going to the rocker shaft. I'm just worried about binding when if the axle has to pivot very far. I looked for a couple hours this afternoon for a break down of parts for the blower, but haven't found any info on the lift arm for either tractor.

I sure don't know where you found that info. I looked for a couple of hours yesterday and couldn't find anything on the legacy. I'll go look again. Have a link by any chance?

Thanks

There is a rod that goes from the bottom of the blower to the lift of the mower deck arm. The blower is lifted with the same foot pedals as the mower deck.

Sunstar and legacy has the same mounts and shaft. You can put a 2 stage blower and hard cab from the older legacy's on a sunstar. Same tractor, different hood.

I'll try to get a picture of the blower and lift arm for ya.

That would be great. Now I have another problem that I created. Was doing some cleaning yesterday. Now when I start it and let off of the brake pedal it shuts down. If I leave the brake pedal depressed some it will stay running. I have removed the brake switch and checked the contacts one set is closed pedal up one set open. Pedal down they reverse. I down loaded the wiring schematic. Studding that now. I also found a parts pdf, but haven't looked at that yet.

Thanks

Took some pictures. Click on thumbnail for bigger pic.

This top bar with a hole in it, is for a manual lift and a couple other tractors used. Not used on the legacy.

The mounts to tractor swivel. The blower raised up and down on these two brackets on each side. Where the bar mounts, the ram pushes on it to lift the blower.

The skid is put on the bar factory so it doesn't dig in the ground moving the snowblower around. The bar really doesn't need a skid plate. It's sort of useless for me, being I always swap on the garage cement floor.

You got it, tried to bypass it got to find another way. I have to mow a pretty steep side hill and can't always keep the seat switch working. I seen some pics of your tractor close up and noticed you have an extra frame under it. Is that part of the snow blower set up? If so I'm in deep .... I don't have that extra frame. I just went out and plugged the seat back in, runs great again.

Thanks for your help.

Yes the legacy has a subframe for the blower. The bottom of the bracket on the blower hooks up to the subframe. The subframe is part of the lift mechanism.

That's what I was afraid of. My blower is from a sunstar, so the bottom part of the hitch is different than the ones for the legacy. I have the sunstar blower on my legacy now, so I'll be fabbing up the lifting rods. Thanks for the pics and help. Think I'll use my cable plan though so it can float, I only need to pick it up 6" or so.

Yup... Long as it picks up. That's all it really needs. Some of the newer legacy's have a ram up front by where the blower mounts to the hitch to lift the blower. A person could even make a lift with a Electric Actuator.

Long as the pto and stuff works, should be fairly easy to rig something up.

Been out in the garage all morning making brackets ect. Well it worked once and bent my lift bracket like a pretzel. Made a new one much more heavy duty, it worked once more and bent the pulley bracket. Just got done with lunch, and headed back to the garage to make a beefier pulley bracket.

Well just got in, was a success .:thThumbsU Sunstar blower mounted and working on a legacy. Had to over build the brackets to my way of thinking, but there is a lot of pressure on them. Lifted the blower a couple dozen times and watched them very closely to make sure they weren't flexing. If this cable system doesn't pan out I can use the brackets I made with rods instead, but I want to use the cable so it can float. Now I just hope I don't have to use it this year.:fam32:
