Gents,

I have a Ford 850 that needs a steering box rebuild. The shop manual suggests "remove the steering wheel".:fing20: Mine is missing the acorn nut at the top of the shaft and it appears to me the steering wheel is just threaded on but it is very tight. Before I put the muscle to it I could use some advice.

Does it indeed just screw off?

Is there any trick for working with a stuck steering wheel?

Anything else?

Thanks.

Steering wheel and shaft are Splined, start soaking it with your favorite flavor of penetrating oil or my favorite 1/2 & 1/2 Acetone and ATF and let it soak a day or two, get ready to cuss, and don't hit the shaft w/o getting a replacement nut to thread on first. It's a very fine spline too, 38 or 40 splines or close to that!
