That is a sturdy looking bench !...I have made a work table in the past from a huge pallet that weighed about 250 lbs,I used the 4x4 timbers off another pallet for the legs, carriage bolted it together,it had 3/4" plywood already on the pallet --it was more than strong enough to put a riding mower up on it to work on--I rigged up a ramp and a winch so I could drag a dead machine up onto it and work on it without kneeling ,or having to crawl around on the floor..once you hit your 40's,your body doesn't like doing that much and you need these things to continue your ability to do anything..
I use wood stoves made from 55 gallon drums with the stove door and pipe collar, and legs you buy in kit form at places like Tractor Supply in my quonset garage..
I have one of those cast iron "box stoves" with the two lids on the top,it was what I had at first, but after seeing how much better heat the barrel stove threw at a friends shop,I had to get one--I also have another cast iron stove just like it in the basement of my house..(which I'd like to replace with a barrel stove, but they are "illegal" for in-home use here ,but many still use them)..
...I also made a barrel stove stands upright, with a home made door on the top to feed the wood into it,and I put 3 pipes for air intake thru the top of the barrel in a triangle ,much like a Tempwood stove, that too throws a ton more heat..takes up less space ..
I do have a "bullet" heater, but diesel fumes gag me bad,and its expensive to run,you can burn up $15 worth a day easily if its real cold & windy ..
I've tried working out of those "tent" garages in the past, they are not much better than nothing, the tarps rip quickly or get shredded in strong winds ,and tree branches can poke thru them if they fall--had one get crushed by a large branch, that got me discouraged enough to build a "real" garage..also the town has passed by-laws recently prohibiting them from being left erected "year round" and are considering a ban on them after some people got burnt in one ,by using a gas grille to BBQ some food in winter!..
There are quonset buildings available as small as 10 x 10 feet from the company I got my 20x40 one from, and they aren't as costly as a wood framed building..
Anything is better than working outside in frigid weather..just being out of the wind is a big improvement..
