Starting problem JD 4700

1964 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  rabtfarm
I left my JD 4700 out last night with temps around 30 degrees or so. When I went to start it, it would turn over maybe once then make a clicking sound from around the starter. Cleaned battery terminals and then attempted to jump it off with the truck. Got the same result (clicking sound) but after about 5 or six tries it fired up. It has been starting fine all day after that.
So....I am thinking bad solonoid?:dunno: Maybe just a bad battery?
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks!!

My bet is the battery (though I'm the furthest from being a mechanic). How old is your battery? :)
I have had this tractor for about a year, but the battery looks pretty old. couldn't find a date on it but I'm guessing it's on up there.
OK, The new battery was the fix. Seems to not really be a starter problem, although it did grind one time as I was starting it.
Worked fine after that.
Thanks!
