Stalled the x748 while mowing

Yep, stalled my x748 with 7-Iron deck, not once, not twice, but a few times (didn't keep score). I guess I discovered its limitations. :dunno:

Here's what I did wrong: 1) The grass was fairy wet, it was overcast all day, so even though it had not rained from the time I got up (around 8:30 am) until I mowed (around 2:30) that area, the grass had not dried out (normally it would have done so). 2) The grass in that area had not been cut in quite a while, so it was up to my knees, the reason is that I had put some brush there, but decided to move the brush to mow that area. 3) That area is near my workshop, rather than blow grass clippings onto the ramp of my workshop, I made a 20', or so, berth to mow with the chute facing the other way, so I was tossing wet grass clippings into wet, tall grass. 4) Mowing on the return side, I was throwing more wet grass clippings into tall, wet grass. 5) My blades need sharpening. :duh:

So, by the third "return" pass, I had a circulartangle area that was covered with grass clippings so that I could not see the uncut grass underneath. I plowed into it with the mowing deck at full width, although I did slow down some. Got about 1/3 way through the pass when she stalled out on me. Restarted with the deck disengaged, backed up a couple of feet, engaged the deck, let it spin up and wait a few seconds to spin out the grass clippings, then, much slower this time, plowed back into the grass again. Stalled it a couple more times on this pass and couple of times on the next pass.

So, there you have it, you CAN stall an x748 while mowing. :fing20::bonk::sidelaugh

See my sig, it is applicable this time. :biglaugh:

I think I may have a new trend coming on......

I posted some time ago that I had bogged down my x748 with 7iron several times and thought something was wrong with it. At the time I had only about 15hrs on the clock and thought that maybe it wasn't broken in yet or something. Bogged it down by mowing at full speed into some thick long grass. Always thought these tanks were unstoppable but I can assure you they are. Hasn't happened again but then again I do mow a little slower nowadays.

LOL Next time lower and angle that blade while mowing. You could bale some hay:sidelaugh

That was my first thought..:sidelaugh
:wwp: or it did NOT happen
Is it the minimax vs the old 1.1lL motor the difference or will both stall?
@Lou, not sure what pictures would do. A video would be more telling. :sidelaugh

@Ric, I am very happy with the minmax engine that came with mine. While I cannot say for sure because I never owned the older 1.1L I think, though, that it would have stalled with either engine.

@ Summers :sidelaugh

@Brinton, yes your thread was the first thing that came to mind when it happened. This wasn't just a bog down, though, this was a complete standstill.

I've stalled mine a couple of times with the 54C deck, and I was in some waist high stuff. I was wishing I had the 7 Iron deck (still do). You must have really been in some thick, wet stuff.

You CAN stall them out, but it takes more than most other mowers can handle.

Get a sickle bar!
Is there one made that will work on an X7? I sure would like to see it. If it will hook to a 3 pt hitch, I might be in business.

Being serious, I don't think any other "GT" would get as far as that x748 did.

I agree! :thThumbsU
question: stalling it out can't be good for it can it? what is the down side of stalling it out ?
It's actually good you are working it that hard. Gets the rings seated which increases power, efficiency, and reduces oil usage. Run 'em hard!

You can stall anything.

Mine will bog, as I am going uphill, running the 60" 7 iron, mulch kit, and gator blades. My yard looks good, but I have to mow slower than I like sometimes.

I have bogged mine as well. I have not stalled it but have had the belt smoking.
