Newbie here,

I have a 67 SS12 with a HH120 Tecumseh and Walbro carb. The only way it runs good is about half choke, so I decided to check her out and it's a vacuum leak at the throttle shaft.
Any ideas on how to correct this? I was thinking about a bushing, but can't think of where I would find something that size. Also, any suggestions on locating a carb kit.

Thanks

Welcome to MTF<any good machine shop should be able to machine out the carb and put in a new bushing to fit the shaft.I have one worn and I put some
heavy grease around the base of the shaft, its a tempory fix,but it gets the job done.

I have bought small flanged brass or bronze bushings at Lowes, they had them in the drawers in the hardware section--they also sell some popular ball bearings numbers that fit wheels and decks in my local store too,and roller chain and master links.. They had bushings as small as 3/16" I.D.,I have used some that were 5/16" O.D. and 1/4" I.D. to re-bush a worn throttle shaft on a carb body once on an old Wisconsin I had that was real sloppy..sometimes you can find brass tubing that will work also,I have used copper tubing as well and peices cut off of brass plumbing fittings too..

I did one carb with J-B Weld,I just spread some in the hole in the carb body and let it dry, then used progressivly larger drill bits to "ream" it to the right size..it seemed to work well and held up to gasoline OK..

Are you absolutely sure you're on the right track? Just how loose is it? Are you SURE you don't have some dirt plugging up something else in the carb? I've seen some PRETTY darn loose throttle shafts, and about all they affect is VERY low speed idle, something that these girls don't do much of.
