I am thinking of buying a sprayer for my X738 so I can put down liquid fertilizer. Anyone else using a sprayer for this application that can share experiences? I don't have a large lawn but figure I could load of the tank and just spray every few weeks vs having to deal with the granules.

Was looking at this sprayer if anyone has specific info on this model.

You shouldn't have to spray fertilizer every few weeks; three applications a year are sufficient. A buddy of mine who is a landscaper says to remember Valentine's Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving as times to fertilize. You can also put down pre-emergent on Valentine's Day. As for what kind of sprayer, they're handy as heck for weed control or insect control, and the JD model is as good as any. You can find cheaper ones the same size, but they don't come with the bracketry to hang it off your tractor like the one in the video. I got a 25 galloon model from Northern Equipment and fabbed up a way to mount it on my 3-point hitch. You can also get them with wheels and a tow bar.

Timing is very region specific. Those dates are way off for Pennsylvania. I have a tow behind spreader and the Deere/SuperiorTech 25 gallon sprayer for my x534. The sprayer is great. I initially used a tow behind, and the rear mounted sprayer is way nicer for maneuvering. For fertilizer, the granules are easier to deal with. I'd stick the herbicide for the sprayer.

Yeah, it would look weird trying to spread fertilizer on top of snow... But it would definitely be applied "pre-emergent".

I've got the 25 gallon JD tractor mounted sprayer. Mounts to my X738 via the Click-n-Go bracket, so it's super easy to mount and dismount. Much easier to maneuver than a tow behind. Full, the tank and mount must weigh in at about 230 lbs or so, and I put suitcase weights on the front for counterbalance. Sprayer works well with either the boom or the hose, and there's a valve configuration that recirculates the liquid in the tank. I've been using mine for two growing seasons and it does everything I expected it to do.

I've been using the 25-gallon mounted sprayer on my X500 for about 5 years. I normally only fill it to around 18 gallons and have never needed any type of weights on the front of the tractor. With the X738 weighing a lot more than my X500 I'm surprised you need weights on the front. Then again, I always keep my deck attached and have 225 lbs. of human ballast in the seat.

I use mine with the wand most of the time. One issue I have is that when the recirculate valve is opened the flow and pressure at the wand and boom drops significantly. As a result, I normally keep the recirculate valve closed.

That's weird that his rod that attaches to the tractor bracket is loose in the slots. As a result his sprayer seems to "hang" slightly off the back of the tractor. On my X500 mount the rod stays tight and that allows the sprayer to ride more level.

Probably don't really need the counterweight on the front, but I do that just to keep the balance. I agree that keeping the recirculate valve open definitely cuts down the pressure on the hose and boom by quite a bit, and I only have it open when I first mix up the solution and on my way to where I'm going to start spraying.

It is not really practical to spray nitrogen as you can't get enough product out there to really matter with a 25 gallon sprayer. If you do melt in straight 46% urea it needs to be very dilute and done very frequently as the nitrogen will release very quickly and is prone to leaching and volatilization.

Get a good slow release fertilizer that is PCSCU, (poly coated sulphur coated urea) or even better a RxN stabilized nitrogen.
