i bought a John Deere 15 foot cultivator at an auction. i paid 350 for it. its a 3-pt. hitch row cultivator. i have to replace the tines on it. some of them were broke. what i was wandering is i know a kid that wants to cut it and make 2 individual cultivators. we decided he pays 150 and he gets a 5 foot cultivator and i am keeping the 10 foot piece. what i was wandering is will my John Deere 60 be able to pull this thing.

thanks

I gotta ask.. HOW are you cutting 5 feet off?? 2.5 feet from each end or moving the three point part over once its cut?
he says he can get the 3 point deals off of a different piece of equipment that he doesnt use anymore. i am not sure how this will turn out. hes in charge of cutting.

I would imagine if you had any trouble pulling it you could remove a few tines from the cultivator.

10 feet worth of space, how many rows will you have in that 10 feet? After all you probably aren't cultivating hundreds of acres, probably a garden or a small field?

Assuming the cultivator is held together with big U bolts and such you can probably centralize your hitch point, then adjust your row width to what you can comfortably pull with your 60.

And a cultivator doesn't drag nearly as hard as say a disc or a plow, so you should be fine.

I'd more wonder about weight of the cultivator vs. the lifting capacity of the hydraulic system.
