I've posted before about my snow removal needs. So tonight I"m biting the bullet and ordering one...or at least I was going to. I have a GT5000 (2005), which supposedly calls for the blade: 24414
Is it worth the extra $100? What makes it different than the <$100 version? Also, Sears lists an MTD brand blade that is even cheaper...and it looks like the linkages are better than what the Sears blade is.

Help me sort this out...should I just buy the blade that Sears specs out? Or can I get it done (without problems) with one of those other blades?

MTD version: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...7&blockType=G7

Recommended version: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...4&blockType=G4

$100 cheaper version: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...5&blockType=G5

I'm also confused now, Sears does claim the 24414 (replacment blade) will fit but it is a lot different then the blades they sold in 05. The blade sold in 05 used the brackets that came with the tractor and the deck lift handle to raise the blade.

The new model seems to have new brackets for the front of the tractor and it's own lift handle. I see why it is 499.99 now also.

Sorry I was no help after all.

The plow that I have has the up/down, left/right handle that you can operate from the seat, 'one control'. I also have the type that attaches to the mower deck raise/lower control. There are pros and cons of each.
The one that has the one control handle basically bolts to the front of the tractor's frame, and can be re-used on other machines if you sell your present machine. The other type is made specifically for that one machine.
The 'one control' plow has several versions though. One version has strengthening bars that go to the frame at the the back of the machine, which strengthens the push frame, reducing the chance of bending the tractor's frame.

Another decision is which size blade to get...42 or 46 inch. The garden tractor variety is usually 46 inch, 16 inch high, with 2 tripping springs. I have seen the 42 inch variety on GTs also. Looks kinda funny (small), but it does do the job.

Last decision, what color...black or black?

You might be able to find one on Craigslist, much cheaper, but might need a little paint.
