Snowblower help for Columbia 16hp (MTD 990)

Hi Everyone,
New to the forum and just picked up a 1976 Columbia 16hp Briggs powered tractor. It's in pretty good shape I believe for it's age. It has a three blade pro driven deck, a pot driven rear tiller, a fender mounted set of hydraulic lines and wood splitter actuator and a snowblower. I looked in the manual section here for more info on the blower but I'm missing many small pieces and probably most importantly the clutch for the blower, I think it's mounted on the blower. Is there anywhere that still has parts or pieces like this or is it all fab yourself at this point? I will try to get some pictures up if I can figure this out.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know for parts sourcing, but I have the very same one, If you need pictures let me know, I'll be glad to help.

You are right, the tractor is in very good shape compared to mine!
Welcome to the forum. :Welcome1:

Here is a link to a manual for a blower that should be close. There is a 1976 tractor manual and a Briggs service manual for the engine also. Feel free to download.

Welcome to the forum. VERY nice looking 990! Good selection of attachments as well. Can't help much with the snowblower situation as mine's an early model and a blower is one attachment I'm actually in the market for, but had to comment on your tractor. It's cool seeing more 990 owners join MTF, as this is to my knowledge one of the largest databases you can find on them. You'll be able to find all the help you need here, and if you need a part, odds are there's someone out there with an extra one that wants to part with it. Have fun with your new tractor! :fing32:

Thanks so much everyone, Smartel I would love to see some pictures if you wouldn't mind. I have the front blower and a few mount pieces, but on the blower I only have the front pulley on the jackshaft and the rear double pulley, not the clutch or anything related. I've been trying to figure out a way to set it up but the clutch is stumping me.

The clutch on those is kind of funny. A lever is connected to the double pulley on the left side, which is pulled tight and actually clipped onto a bracket on the left side of the tractor, if I recall correctly. It's kind of a goofy setup, as it doesn't use the PTO lever that engages the deck. Simple and crude, but ultimately effective. You might not be missing as much as you think...

Thanks Steddy, that would be great if it were just a simple spring loaded type set up, I believe your right as there was something about a lever that locks into a clip on one side of the tractor. Im missing that pull rod but it would be an easy fab. I have the lift rod and chute rod though lol.
It isn't even spring loaded. That double pulley setup just kind of flops loose. The lever is the only thing that moves it. It isn't pulled back by any kind of spring. Like I said, goofy but simple.
Thats even better lol. I will see if I can get some pictures to better understand it.
Steddy is better than me to explain, but I'll show you pictures!

I removed the top cover for clarity

Those pictures are from the top, and I am standing on the right hand side, the picture where you see the legs is taken from the left hand side.

Hope it helps!

Oh Man, Smartel your great! Thanks so much! I am now understanding the simplicity of the clutch, rather just a tensioner on a push rod lol. I think I may actually have way more than originally thought. I just need one idler pulley on the left side and then a bracket rigged up for the upper pulley. Any chance you could send me a side profile shot of the way it installs onto the tractor from each side? I believe I know how it attaches but would love to be sure from your references if possible. Again thanks so much, this helps me huge. I can't believe as many have said how simple the "clutch" is, i'm excited to try to make something work.

I couldn't by chance bug you for the belt numbers you have on those two belts you have could I? It'd save me huge time in measurements, sorry to be a pain, but I truly appreciate your help. (I looked at the manual and the belt numbers I couldn't even find an online reference for what they have been updated to)

I will send you some pics of how it attaches, I am out of town atm, but it is very simple, two bolts on each side on the frame and that's it, I'll send you pics this week end.
Thanks so much, I have a bracket thats welded to the front axle, I assume thats the mount but I'm not 100% sure if it's all there. Again thanks for your help. Really appreciate it!
Mint! Thanks smartel really appreciate you pics. I finally got an evening to fab something up last night, I'm working on the rod to hold pressure on the movable wheel system but think I have something that'll work. I just need to make up a bracket for the left side of the drivers area. I will post up some pics so you can see the progression, your pics have truly been invaluable to helping me get this designed. I'm not much of a welder or fabricator but it seems to be coming together quite nice. I'll get pics today.

Oh did you happen to have any belt numbers for both the pto and the blower link?

Thanks Eastends! I really appreciate it. I'm going to order all those belts right away. Silly question but where is that gear you changed, is that on the blower? I haven't pulled it apart too much yet. Just been building the clutch thing.
