Snow - You Know It's Coming.....

This summer a friend called me and said he had a John Deere garden tractor that we wanted out of his garage. It belonged to his son-in-law, it didn't run and the SiL had no interest in it. I had seen it before when I was over there. It was nothing special just a 112, no hydraulic or electric lift, no sleeve hitch, no headlights, just a plain jane tractor that didn't run with the typical broken nose on the hood. I told him I really had no use for it and had enough projects at home. Every few weeks he'd text me and ask if I was ready to take it home yet. Finally I made the SiL a lowball offer and he accepted it.

Anyway, I picked it up and drug it home. I pulled a battery out of my 160 and dropped it into the 112, hit the key and nothing. Checking things out I found the PTO safety switch was stuck in the made position and the neutral safety switch needed additional pressure applied to make. Once I got those issues corrected, it turned over. I shot starting fluid into the carb while cranking it over, nothing. Checked spark, nothing. Tried another spark plug, nothing. Installed a new set of points, now we got spark. Pulled the carb off and did a complete cleaning and reinstalled. Shot starting fluid in the carb again while cranking, almost nothing. Occasionally I'd get a little pop. I think a valve was partially stuck open and one of those pops must of pushed the valve back down. Once that happened it started and ran on the starting fluid. Next I added gas to the tank hoping the fuel pump was in good working order. Surprisingly it worked as it should and the little tractor ran like a top. It didn't smoke and ran as smooth as a sewing machine. The manually engaged PTO worked great too,

I decided to mount a snow blower that I had just setting around that was the correct vintage. Today, I hung 260 lbs. of wheel weights on it and added a set of tire chains and now it's ready for winter. Come on snow, bring it on....

That 112 should do a good job for you. For the blizzard in 1978, I was using a 110 8 hp and it cleared my driveway. Of course, there was just as much snow on the road as there was in my driveway so I still couldn't go anywhere. I was off work a few days.
the 322 is in snow gear wall the 140 is ready to goat a moments notace
Well Utah plow day tomorrow and then mine will be ready for the white stuff.
I will be getting the 332 ready in the next week, it's still on garden plow duty
I am finishing up a project of fixing a transaxle leak then I will be setting mine up for snow removal. Debating on whether or not to spend the money and get a cab so I can stay warm and dry.
just put my 47 inch snowblower on yesterday - was pleased how easy it was to put on - took about 30 min ( since it was my first time) think it will take me 5 to 10 min next time

still debating on whether to get a JD cab or OTC-- leaning toward OTC either way I'll pull the trigger on one of them this week

I pulled my blower out from storage and am going through it to make sure I am good to go. I installed my new to me cab on the X575, I have to get some weatherstripping for the doors and it will be all good. I am servicing my walk behind so that will be ready too. Still picking up leaves and finishing up the garden stuff though, but it wouldn't take long to get ready.

You won't be sorry if you spend the extra $ on the OTC cab. Pm me if you have any questions between the two.

Will see the way The Temperatures are Now Here In the Midwest Make's me think it is going to be a low snowfall winter in the Midwest. Might only be a Blade winter and Not a Blower winter for me. The Blower sits On a dolly I made for it in my garage all year. I'm still in leaf Collector mode with My Hydraulic lift MCS-519 Mounted right now. Bought a New Rubber squeegee for the 54inch Blade Last year. The Last Rubber squeegee edge Lasted 10 years. But I usually don't put my tractor into winter mode until about Thanksgiving anyways:thThumbsU

I moved south so I don't have to deal with that white stuff.....I hope
I do have a 4 way plow for the front just in case and the mower deck is off for the garden plow I am sure till spring when the grass starts to grow again.
So I am as close to winter setup as I will be I guess.

I'm still doing leaves. I'll switch from mow to snow in a few weeks.

Same here. Not only do I have leaves to chop up, but the darned grass is still growing - even though we're almost "way up north".
Worked on installing my new Swisher ATV snow plow yesterday, still have to install the tire chains and hang the weights on the back.

It's too early for me to switch over. My leaves are just starting to really fall, so I have a ways to go yet. Probably by the end of the month I'll switch over.
Started getting my 317's ready for it today. Blade and blower are mounted. Still have a few things to do like the chute actuator to wire up.
