snow blade 486.24441 lift handle rod pivot sheared off while plowing

insane, that thing was thick and solid but all of the sudden the lift arm wouldn't do anything. Found the sheared part on the driveway in some slush. Now, do I bother replacing the rod or just get a Harbor Freight ATV winch $49 and use that to raise/lower the blade instead. I should mention that the blade is fab mounted to my Massey Ferguson MF12 tractor and not a craftsman.

DCopp,

It "should" be easy enough to potentially FABRICATE a replacement if you readily have the proper diameter & length of round stock available...

The bends may be a bit difficult, but if you have a "good sized" Vise (and muscle), you should be able to replicate your own part.

Unless funds/time are not an issue for ordering a replacement rod.

Just my TWO CENTS!

Mine did the same thing 3 years ago. I made a pipe sleeve for the two pieces slid them all together and welded. Still holding up well.

Looking at mine I would try a piece of pipe and slit and flatten each end such that flat can be drilled and a bolt through the attachment points. Not sure if a rod with threaded ends and ball joints would work. Joints handle steering loads. Not sure about lift loads.

this is the part that snapped:

can anyone help me find a part number/price for a new one? Turns out my plow may not be the 24441 model as I don't see that part on the schematic.

$51.80!?!?!?!?!?!? :tango_face_surprise That can't be...insane. I can buy a winch for $49.99...LOL

I just ordered one from Amazon for $15 shipped. Pic was wrong but description was correct. It is prime item so free returns if they send the wrong thing.
Order a piece of "cold rolled" from McMaster Carr, cut it to length. Make a new one.
I'd probably just weld the plate back together. I Bent the crap out of that plate a couple times on my old blade and just hammered it straight, never broke. I sheared the lift handle and welded it back together a few times. Also welded up the worn grooves on those pins a handful of times.
Don't lift the blade until after you start backing away from the snow pile. Otherwise you're lifting half the pile too, wearing stuff out quicker.

Looks like part #50 on the 24441 schematic to me.

I was thinking of the long rod. I see now that you broke a different piece.

i was thinking it was the long rod also.
Seems it would be easy enough to make a new one. But for $15.00, not worth the time it would take.

that piece already looks fabbed. Looks like You could make it with a couple bolts, and some flat stock pretty easily.
