I have an old 8 hp snapper rear engine rider. the drive belt went out and I am just hard headed enough to want to learn to replace it my self. I can get the belt almost on the pulley but the clearance between the main drive pulley on the engine and the gear case is too narrow....before I start taking things loose
does anyone have an idea......this mower's ID number is worn off and probably should be junked except I just like it

Can anyone offer me a suggestion ?

Push the clutch pedal down and hold it down with a clamp. That should loosen things up. Roger

The old snappers have a clamp on the tube under the seat to adjust the blade belt.

It will probably need adjusting however, that has nothing to do with the problem he mentioned. Slide center chain case, to side with most clearance and push clutch as mentioned above IF needed.
