Simplicity GTHL 17 Revving High

Hey guys, I have a Simplicity GTHL 17.

I love this tractor, but for some reason it just wants to rev as hard as it can, I mean, maxes itself out like its trying to take off in flight.

I had a friend who is better than me with mechanics, we all have that friend, and he seems to think that the govenor might be broken internally.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

It all started after I took the carb of to clean, and replaced the coil with a dynatek.

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

First up, Why was the coil replaced? If the old coil is still good, put it back on to test if that was the cause. On the carb, did you get the little spring, ( if any) re-hooked? Does the carb gov arm work free with engine off? Now with engine running, how hard is it to move gov. to carb rod? should be hard and when you let go it should return to set rpm's. One other thing, are there more than 1 hole in carb plate that the rod can be installed in? If put in wrong hole, it throws off the gov.

If everything checks out, then the gov. is either broke or something got out of place. Thanks sonny
