Possible it's a coil going out after it heats up thoroughly! I'd offer $200 and see what happens! Not a bad looking tractor though!
The governor is the first thing installed into the block in a complete re-build. Then the cam and the crank. Replacing the gear would be alot of work for just a $10-15 part. Was recently posted here that to fix the governor on a 214 required almost a full engine rebuild. I don't recall the specifics of why but its not a simple job. The 216 can take a rear tiller although it may be a bit of a pain with the manual lift
LOL! Actually none of these is in West Va. They're everywhere BUT Wva. I'm on a nationwide search. Another thing. If you take the time to ask people about the deck they'll probably find it in the back of some shed and drag it out for you.Don't they use mower decks in W. VA.? none of them are pictured with one ?
Pa318GuyJoe, I would go with the 216! I had one and should have rebuilt the engine but this darn 318 caught my eye! The 216 when it was running correctly was an absolute beast and had nearly the capability of the 318 pulling. I ask the owner if he had some way to put the engine under load (my tree test comes to mind) just to make sure it'll take a hard load! If it needs motor mounts don't delay putting them in or you can end up having the pto sheve grinding into the frame.
Dang! That is a real bite. I can't stand a stinkin' thief. How long ago did it happen?:sorry1:it may just be the linkage in the carb is set up wrong and the govenrs ok.
If you on a nation wide search look out for my 212 (stolen). It's easy to spot , where the head lights use to be is a painted plastic yellow strip on the front , it is not stock and the grill I made out of 1/2in sq tube. both look stock if you don't know JDs. Thanks Mike
