shock and awe

Hello Guys and Gals,

I just bought a 10525.

I've been through multiple carbs in my day, and have found awful float bowls before, but I've NEVER come across this. The needle is molded into the seat. I didn't think this poor boy would ever run after all the crud I found in the carb. The fuel line is still completely plugged. I tried using a long air filter screw off a briggs classic to unplug the fuel line and whatever is in there won't budge.

I'm happy to report I replaced the needle and seat and THOROUGHLY cleaned the carb and the old boy runs pretty good. There is a slight surge but given all the junk in the carb I was happy he started on the second pull...

The needle will NOT let go of the seat no matter what.

Yikes. I too have seen one like that. The needle felt welded to the seat. That is truly nasty. Isn't it amazing that they will start after a carb clean after being treated like that

Way to go getting this one fixtd
I wonder if that was a victim of ethanol left in the mowers system? I've heard it eats the fuel lines and such from the inside out....I'm gonna guess yes.

Either way, nice score.:fing32:
did you figure out what the guck in the fuel bowl is? It looks like fuel hose bits. I would replace the fuel line. I just rebuilt a Tecumseh carb. I used a Brigg P/N :398188 needle and seat kit for the seat. I had to replace the tank because it was rusty inside and had blocked the fuel inlet with rust. Luckily the needle was rusted in place and nothing got inside the carb.

Looks about like my M. Mix ethanol and cheap two stroke oil, let sit until thoroughly evaporated, and you have an industrial grade goo that nothing can cut.
I had a duraforce that had the needle stuck in the jet like that, machine was sitting outside for awhile and the gas(or whatever it was in the tank) looked like throw up. LOL These machines can take alot of abuse!
