A fella I know just offered to sell me a Sears Suburban 10 tractor. I'm trying to determine exactly what it is and what it might be worth. Here is what I know for sure.

It's blue and white. The decal on the hood says Sears Suburban 10. The only number I can find on it is in the front and is 917 60655. It doesn't start, but it appears everything is there including the mower deck with all the belts, pulleys, and idlers in place. I don't see any signs of serious rust or other damage.

Any idea what year it is? He has asked me to make an offer on it. Any idea where to start? What might the tractor be worth as it sets? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Go to the site www.vintagesearstractor ,they have a I.D. chart there--going by what I looked up there, your tractor is an early David Bradley built Sunurban 10,around a 1965 vintage...most of them I've seen sell for 300+ bucks but it wont hurt to offer less and see if they'll take it..I'd grab it if you can get it for 200 or less...be aware though, these aren't exactly like the later Suburbans ,they dont have a hi-lo range tranny and I think reverse is only a friction disc on the engine, its not a gear in the tranny..they are still very desireable tractors though, and I think most of the later attachments fit them..

OK. I went to http://vintagesearsgardentractors.com/ and checked out the Tractor Identification Guide. The tractor I'm looking at looks just like the 1965 Suburban 10. I'm pretty sure it did have the Tecumseh 10 horse.

Assuming I'm able to get a hold of it for $100 or $200, are parts available to do a complete restore? I'm for sure not a Sears guru. I just like to restore old mowers. I'd like to keep the original powerplant intact. Are the Tecumseh engine parts still readily available?

Thanks for the replies, guys.

If your restorations have to 'work' for a living, this may be a good one to fix & resell. Tecumseh shut down & is in the hands of an operator known for liquidation more than restructuring. I am told by other members that the aftermarket is capable of supplying 80+ % of later model parts, but you might want to check with the specialty restorer forums for good answers on that old of a unit. I agree with Tractor-Holic; I'd try to grab it, but then, I want everything I see.
