I'm trying to run a search on this forum for info on 955 CUT's. Using "955" as the search term I keeping getting "Sorry, no matches". Certainly there are some posts here on the 955 (I know I posted at least one myself).... so what am I doing wrong?

Too few criteria. Add John Deere 955 or something like that. Search can be both a blessing and a curse. :)

unfortunately, that doesn't work either. Since the "AND" function currently doesn't work, searching for "john deere 955" brings up every post with the word "john" or "deere" or "955" in it.... about 550 posts in the CUT-John Deere forum. This really isn't any different than just paging through the posts one by one without performing a search. In this configuration, the search function is completely worthless. :banghead3

Well, I did find a work-around to the not so useful search function.... I remembered that when using Google, the search can be confined to this domain by adding "site:www.mytractorforum.com" to the search term.

We have a couple of 655 and 955 owners here, more 855 and 755. Many of the questions asked on those models can apply to your tractor. :)

Who made the 655, 755, 855 & 955 tractors for John Deere. I've been looking around and found some references indicating that these tractor were built by Yanmar for John Deere, but I haven't been able to back that up.

Also, I'm trying to determine who manufactured some of the components but with no luck. So, who manufactured the hydrostatic transmission? Peerless? Also wondering who manufactured the transaxle. Practically all of the interanl parts of these two components still appear to be available from JD, but on a piece by piece basis. I'm wondering if there are rebuild kits available from the manufacturer(s) of these components.

Yanmar Made all Deere compacts from 1978 till 1999 with the introduction of the 4100 series in 1998 Deere built that. Then in 1999 Deere took over most Production of the compacts with the introduction of the 4200 to the 4400 and the 4500 through 4600 Yanmar countinued to make the 790 and the 990 for Deere or currently the 3005 and 4005 They also make the 2305 for Deere in Japan Most yanmar Plants are in Malaysia. For the most Part the Compacts that Deere sold were designed by Deere to Deere specs But built by Yanmar for them.If you contact Yanmar they will Probably send you back to Deere What parts are avaliable for them would be in Deere warehouse's such as Indianapolis, IN But you would still have to order through a Deere dealer for any parts

Probably so... but I thought it might be worth a shot. For example, I believe it is Peerless that makes either transmission or differential in my little 322 Garden Tractor. I know some of the guys over at WFM were able to track down some internal gears for the diff and hydro release valve on the trans through the companies that actually manufactured those assemblies. Thought maybe that might be the case with the compacts as well.

I guess I wasn't paying attention when I was browsing the parts catalog. Or maybe I was paying too much attention to the part numbers and not the notes. Says right in the parts catalog that the transmission is a Sundstrand unit. Double checked the transaxle section and no such luck on any additional info listed there. No manufacturer mentioned for the transaxle.
