A friend of mine just gave me an old McCulloch 250 today- I'm curious to know more about it. It is a heavy old beast of a thing- a great big engine with a dinky little bar. It runs well, though, and aside from being very dirty from sitting in the corner of the barn, it looks to be in pretty good shape. If it is half as powerful as it looks, I may put a little longer bar on it and put it to work. Can anyone tell me more about it- particularly how old it might be?

Very nice find and those saws have a wicked cool sound. The Mac carbs were actually a good carb but it is a bear to find parts for them now, I would suggest converting it to a Tilly HL if it does not have one already just for the parts availability. The 250 was the "replacement" model for the 1-50 and the 1-50 was the "replacement" for the 1-40, you will find that many models are very similar with interchangeable parts.
