For FREE!!!!!! it got crashed into a tree and the top hood, headlights, and bumper broke. the lower hood has 2 cracks in it but hey! it runs great. its never been left outside, always been garage kept. it needs a seat and those parts but thats it. it leaks a bit of oil, looks like from the valve cover. it also came with a snow plow. it has the 15hp engine, and a 48" convertible deck. what does that mean, convertible deck? the owner decided to get a new x500 to replace it. some friends are awesome!! any ideas or tips? anyone have one like to chime in? needless to say I'm excited!!

Small bit of advice-after you get it fixed don't let the donor see it. He'll be kickin' himself because you've got a great start there.

The GTs were a very good quality machine as were most of the JD's of that vintage the convertible deck means you can discharge or change it over to mulching with a kit. Throw some new parts at it and you have a very good tractor. The seat looks like you might be able to repair it if you can reattach the cushion to the pan.The rest of the tractor aside from the damage is very clean. All that plastic can be found new on e-bay for a lot cheaper than retail price at the dealer.

KATT, no argument from me, but for some folks $450 is a lot of money to spend on cosmetics, particularly in this economy. @ We b gpn, it runs, it works, so if looks are not your thing, just use it :).

That is why I qualified it with... "since he paid $0.00 for the tractor !!"
Because I don't think you could buy a complete running GT225 fixed up for $450.00 !!

Great tractor! Most GT225's came with the 42" deck, so getting the 48" is a bonus. However, it might be a little power limited in really tall thick grass. Strong frame, steering, and K71 trans (same as 325, 345, etc) just with a lifetime filter.

You did good on that one!

.. and on hills. That's why I did a repower on mine. Of course it doesn't help that I weigh half as much as the machine. :thThumbsU

thx guys. yeah i will slowly fix the way it looks. first Im gonna do the maintenance that it gets yearly. it doesnt look that bad with just the lower hood on for now. plus it works better then my old noma tractor. not that it gave me any trouble it was a good tractor but the deck on it is worn out. Im trying some jb weld to try to epoxy the plastic bumper to where i can bolt it back on. just till i can afford to get the parts. it is tough in this economy with a family to spend money on cosmetic things all at once. BUT eventually it will be back to normal.
ebay was the first place i looked for parts and they are reasonable especially as stated i have $0 in it so far.

I just spent $2k on an exceptionally well cared for GT225 with a 42" deck. I may have paid a bit too much, but the previous owner threw in a #10 cart and took the time to make the tractor little look like new (new seat, bumper, etc.) that I did not want to low ball him. In some ways I like the GT225 better than my GX345.
