Saw dies when I turn it on its side to cut

I have an old Montgomery Wards small 2.1 saw. I recently installed a new diaphragm and fuel line/filter. Initially it cut fine, but yesterday when ever I turned it on its side to cut it the rpms would slow down and then it would die. I thought that maybe it was low on fuel and the filter was sucking air, so I filled the tank completely full and it did the same thing. Any ideas

Probably crank seal leak
You said you replaced the diaphragm but did you clean the carb while you were at it? My saw would do the same thing so I put a kit into the carb, cleaned it and that fixed it. I did find out later if I put the saw away with gas still in the tank it would act up again so I now drain my two strokes and run them until they die. No problems since. You can thank ethanol for that.

Well I cleaned it out as best as I could. I used carb cleaner to clean out all the little orifaces and it ran just fine initially. Yes you have to love ethanol.
