So... how do I make a s/g spin the other way, the guy that gave me this 149 said he had rebuilt the s/g. can you wire them backwards? what happens if the A and F terminals got switched during the rebuild process will the F term make the starter spin? Spin and in reverse? I'm lost now untill I figure this one out, any one had this happen?

I've been told that it is difficult and expensive to "reverse" a starter generator, I would be willing to bet that this S/G came off of something besides a Cub Cadet.

I keep wanting to think that the direction of rotation is controlled by the field coils and the way they are installed in the housing, however if they are installed backwards then the wires attached to them wouldn't be long enough to reach the brushes and the terminal studs.

I may be way off with this but I think that's how it works, hopefully some of the electric motor gurus will be along shortly and straighten us both out.

thanks for the hope that it may be an easy fix. I would have had it apart already but it rained all day, I may have to take it to the local electric motor shop or the starter alternator guy, but I'll wait to see what everyone has to say first. I haven't given up hope that I can't fix myself yet. :Disgus:

Thanks dude, my meter is my favourite tool, Ill get at er, and see what I find.
and yes the grass is growing like crazy here, and all the rain means no mowing...
which means no tractor or lawn tractor seat time.

Thank you to RBedell he gave me the info on the model #s for the cc s/g at least I know that my s/g is the correct model, which is good. Now why is it spinning in reverse. I'll take it apart this afternnoon hopefully and have a look. I'll post what I find. any opinions are welcomed as this seems like an odd problem

I checked the model of the s/g and it is the correct one. Now I just took it apart and every thing looks legit. maybe it has the wrong rebuild kit. If I could get the two coils out I can swap them to opposite sides and then the power will flow through the coils the otherway and the wires will reach. I don't have a large enough screwdriver to remove the two coils, going on the hunt. If all else fails the s/g goes to the starter guy tomorrow morning.

S/G problem is solved! it had the wrong coils installed in it. It was actully very simple to fix in the end, just swapped the wires on the armature. I had to add a bit of wire to one of the leads to make it reach, I used the same gauge wire so it won't
melt. Once the starter spun the right way it still would'nt run.
I had to pull the carb again, recleaned it. Flushed the tank, Adjusted the points gap and adjusted the Valves. And it started right up! now all the little stuff to fix. I'm loving this cub cadet.

Good for you. I'm glad you stuck with it and solved it rather than paying someone else to figure it out.
YUP....I am glad you discovered the problem as opposed to giving up and selling it or calling it a POS.

:congrats:

I never swear at my vehicles, I'm too superstitious. They might get peed off at you and make you have to walk home! I'm never giving up on that tractor the cab and snowblower combo is too cool and after the winter I had last year, the cab with a wiper on the windshield looks really good!
