I use it in all my vehicles, I will not change the oil in my diesel if it's not available but how is it in small engines?

I use it in my diesel JD950, but I have never used it in a small engine, or anything nondiesel either.

I have no idea how it would perform. For me, I think that it would be too heavy for a small engine, or is it available in lighter weights? I've never seen it around here in anything besides 15W-40.

Make sure you check your equipment engine specs to see what the API service rating calls for. If it doesn't match, I wouldn't use it.

I use Rotella T in 30 and 15w40 weights.

I use it in all my tractors and vehicles. I also use in my customers mowers tractors and vehicles. I have used it for over 30 years with out incident.

Rotella is a Shell oil product and is a head of the ratings curve.

Ran the Rotella T synthetic 5w40 (yes 5, not 15) in my VW TDI and it was great. I use the regular Rotella SAE30 in everything that calls for SAE 30.

I use Rotella in everything I own. I have for years, I have never lost a engine. Most BIG Truck shops use Rotella and most big truck Mechanics like Rotella also.
When I owned Ozark Truck and Auto we bought Rotella ,two 55 gallon barrels at a time.

I've used it in my 6.2 diesel and the VW jetta diesel I had..but not religiously,I also used Mobil's "Delvac" ,Delco Dello 400,Castrol, and Wolf's Head--whatever is on sale is what I get..my vehicles have well over 100K on them and I doubt sticking to one brand makes much difference..

I'm not afraid to use diesel rated oil in my gas engines ,air cooled or otherwise,as long as I know they weren't full of sludge from being run with non detergent oil--it protects better than typical dino oils does and keeps engines much cleaner..15W-40 also gets consumed less quickly if an engine uses oil too I have noticed..dont think I'd use it in a newer car that takes 5W-20 or 5W-30 though..too thick?..

The Shell Rotella 15W-40 is what I use in my JD2305 diesel. Just bought some the other day to change the oil again. I have never heard anything negative about it. :fing32:

I use it in all my vehicles. In my cub with a $900 new rebuilt kohler M18 I use I use kohler 40w. It's easy for me to get and aircooled engine have different requirements than car engines. They have removed some inportant metals and componets from modern car oils. That has caused some problems breaking in flat tappet cams in cars. So I think I will use the manufacturers recommended for a while until I get some hours on this old school motor.

I've used it since day one in my '99 GMC truck, going on 138K miles, no problems, no oil consumption. I used it for 11 years in a 1810D Yanmar tractor, over 1500 hours, worked great. I'm using it in my new X748 and expect good service there as well. I use 10W-40 in all of them.

Doc & I must be twins! I only use Shell Rotella 15w40 in every single engine on this farm. From my smallest tiller engine to our V8 Massey's. No need for various oils here. No engine failures at all....well a busted radiator roasting engine doesn't count! Rotella all the way!:thThumbsU

Maybe I should have been a little more specific.

Small engines.

They make it in straight 30W.

I use Rotela religiously in anything diesel so I'm very familiar with it in in that realm.

I can't believe how many responses this got in one day. :thanku:

Rotella is a very good oil in all flavors. While I don't run the straight 30w in anything, I run 15w-40 in most of my equipment including my 9N and JD325.

You can get specs from the website and compare TBN, ZDDP, etc to other straight 30 weights if you want to get really involved.

That being said, it's almost impossible to find a "bad" oil. As long as the oil is correct for the application (no 0W-20's in a diesel engine) then you'll be fine. Stay away from non-detergent oils unless a manufacturer specifically calls for it.
