Thanks guys, I wonder if I can bypass it then.... to check. I've done this back in the olden days with my 69 Ford Falcon. I don't want to fry anything though. I hate to buy a new ignition and find out that's not it.... 'course that would narrow it down to something else.

Rosie,

Welcome to the forum! :Welcome1: Hopefully some of our more mechanically savvy members will be able to give you advice as to how to isolate the switch. :)

First thing...Have you checked the BATTERY?

Next When you turn the key to ON, but NOT the start position...do the oil pressure, battery discharge and engine preheat lights come on? or NOT?

Welcome Rosie!

That 855 is a diesel, so we have some other control circuitry in addition to Kevin's easy to follow diagram.

But, step one is to test the battery (charge and load test), check fuses, clean all the electircal connections (all of them, especially grounds).
