Rock Bucket Project - Pictures

This will be a live post - will add story and pictures as I progress.

I've been looking for a while for a cheap rock bucket for my 2305.
Finally came across one on Kijiji. :thThumbsU

It's super heavy duty - way more heavy duty than the 2305, and it's heavy as ****!... That's going to be a problem... but we'll see how it performs when the time comes. Made by S. Houle out of Quebec.

In the mean while, it's only 36" wide... I don't mind the width, for the work I'll be doing, but the problem is that it doesn't fit very well on the quick attach bucket-connect system on the 200CX FEL.
So I have to fabricate some adapter plates.

Below are the initial pics of the bucket, the plates, and the fitment of the plates onto the bucket. Note that I'll be bolting these on, so that if I ever want to re-sell the bucket to a non-JD owner, I won't have to cut off the 200CX hard-points.
In the next day or two, I'll have to weld-up the plates and FEL hooks/ & pins.

The Bucket (300 lbs of it)

The Adapter Plates (1/2" steel bar, 6" wide)

Looking real nice Wally.. Did you build those brackets or did ya buy em?? Looks real nice all tapered and such..
can't take credit for the brackets - they are from JD... hardened steel... there are 2, and then there are 2 pins for the lower end... complete kit is about $30-$40 I think.
They will get welded onto the plates etc...
Hopefully I can get to that today... have the bucket finished by the weekend....
Could you post the part number for the pins and the brackets?
Wally did you check with the Beaver to see if it's ok to do that. :sidelaugh
Wally,

Thanks for the post and documentation. :)

Thanks for the info on the pins and brackets..
The hooks that go on top are P/N: W43359
and the pins that go on the bottom are P/N: W47211

I got some more prep done last night... if all goes well (time wise), I'll be welding tonight... will take more pics and post...

cheers!

Looking forward to the update. slkpk
Looks cool, but I think your WAY undermuscled.
Did some welding last night... here are some progress pictures....

Today I will clean it all up with a grinder, round the edges and all, and hopefully paint on Friday.

That should hold up well... I found out my shitty welding is stronger then those cast pieces on the loader that the pins and top hooks attach too.. That should work great Wally..
well I'm no welding pro, but I am an expert with a sanding disk on my grinder!

LOL
Thanks for the post! It gives me some ideas.I do have to ask...isnt the 2305 rated at like 5-600lb capacity? It seems like you have half the capacity in bucket? Or is the original bucket heavy too....?

Thank goodness for 120 grit flap wheels..:thThumbsU:trink39:

I would look at it this way.. How fast can YOU pick 300 lbs of rocks by hand?? I bet he would be faster with his tractor and more relaxed at the end of a 8 hour day..:thThumbsU

Using clamp-on pallet forks, I was able to lift a pallet containing 640 pounds of solid retaining wall blocks way out front of the FEL. Had I stacked them closer to the bucket (or in the bucket), I'm sure I could've lifted much more weight!

Subtract the weight of the bucket, clamp-on forks, and when balancing the weight better, Wally should do just fine! That 'lil 2305 has attitude!

Amen!... except I will use 60 and 80 grit!

isnt the 2305 rated at like 5-600lb capacity?

Here are the specs:
Full lift height 561 lbs.
At 59" above ground level 706 lbs.
Break-out force 1513 lbs.

Here are some test results a 2210 owner once posted on this forum:
750 lbs. to full height 68"
800 lbs. to 61"
850 lbs. to 51"
900 lbs. to 45"
950 lbs. to 38"
1170 lbs. to 16"

The regular bucket weighs I would guess about 150-200bs?... The rock bucket weighs 300lbs (per S. Houle specs), plus my 30-40 lbs of attachments, means I lose about 150 lbs of capacity.

It will still be quite useful.... I hope... but once I finish building it, I'll test it, and will post the results here.
I am not planning on lifting the rocks 6 feet up in the air... only about 3 feet or so... to pile them up along a stone-embankment that is 2-3 feet high.

Cheers!
