Hi all,

This is my first post looking for help. I hope this is the right place.

I have a Troy Bilt Bronco lawn tractor/mower. It was purchased new in 2004.
Model # 13AJ609G766 w/ Briggs and Stratton Intek 18.5 OHV engine.

When I turn the ignition key, I hear a buzzing or whirring noise. The engine does not turn over and will not start.

I replaced the spark plug but no go. Didn't think it was the battery because in the past, when the battery is gone, it makes no sound when trying to start.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I like to fix things myself but don't know where to go sometimes. Thanks.

Did you check for spark? It is not going to make any noise with out the battery. Did you charge the battery?

Thanks for the quick reply. When the battery is disconnected it makes no noise at all. It makes the buzzing noise when the battery is connected. I have not recharged it.

Regarding the spark plug, here's what I did.
Disconnected wire leading to spark plug.
Removed spark plug.
Reconnected spark plug wire.
Held threaded end of spark plug against metal surface.
Attempted to start mower. I did not see a spark in the spark plug gap.
