hello all. I could use a little help.I have a jacobsen 8 hp rider with a briggs model #191707 type 1130 what would be a good replacement engine as this engine seems to be longer available???

I think you can still get a "Classic" 8 HP Briggs horizontal shaft engine from a place like Northern Tool,etc..a Tecumseh would bolt in its place by drilling two new bolt holes (they have a slightly shorter bolt spacing on the engine mount),or a Kohler engine would probably bolt on as well..others may well fit too ,but you'll have to ensure they will fit under the hood,etc..

There are plenty of "good used" engines around,I'd go for a Craigslist bargain before spending 200-300 bucks on a brand new one..if you can find a good running old cast iron block one, you'd be geting something better than new,really..the saying "they dont make 'em like they used too",isn't just a saying,its TRUE!..but the 8 HP Aluminum Briggs were a pretty good engine too..
