First off sorry for the length. I purchased a John Deere LX188, it is in rough condition but the price was right and it works, engine runs like a top. My problem is the transaxle it was stated that it was a little weak, found out it might be a little more than weak, after about a half an hour I need to let it cool because it stops moving forward and reverse. I have been reading the forums quite extensively and will be changing the oil and belt but I may need to do something about it this off season. The transaxle is either a K61 or K62 tuff torque.
What would you guys recommend doing, rebuild or new?
I see a lot about upgrading to the K66 is that possible on the LX188 or would it require a lot of modifications?
Also any suggestions on where to find a reasonable price on them? John Deere is ridiculous at 1,300, I remember finding a post on a site that had very good prices but cannot find it now.
