Removing Decals?

1733 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  M U Tiger
I am working on a pair of STX38 lawn tractors and want to remove some of the old decals that are in poor shape. I suppose that a heat gun will work to remove the decals on the metal frame of the tractor, but what is the best way to remove decals from the plastic hood? Obviously, a heat gun could melt the plastic, so what other method have some of you used successfully?

heat gun still works, and nothing does it better, obviously don't get it too hot, you do not need that much heat to get the glue to soften. do it all the time on plastic snowmobile hoods.

just take your time... heat and peel. Heat the "stuck" edge only, while pulling it will come right up clean... you do not need to heat the whole graphic at once...
And DUBB D 40
A hair dryer, not as hot as a heat gun.
And DUBB D 40
What does the wd40 do?
I get excellent results using "goo gone", available at most hardware stores.
releases the glue like Goo Gone
Thanks for the replies. I'll try the hair dryer and the Goo Gone and/or WD-40, since I have both solvents here.
