Late ignition timing, running very lean, valve adjust too tight on the exhaust valve, burnt exhaust valve....? What engine?

I've had problems with it not charging the battery, fault was a break in a wiire coming off stator, fix that then went to start it and it runs hot. sorry but don't know what valve lash clearance is.
ps anyone know why it has no voltage regulator on it? :greendr:

It may have a partially clogged exhaust i.e. a mouse decided to make it a summer home ?

Naaah, if a mouse nest is actually the problem and it is still hot, then the nest material is still in there. My bet is running lean for one of the reasons above.
