Hi all,Had a couple of leaks so I pulled the rear end apart to tighten up the hitch pins. One had a torn gasket and the other ,no gasket.new gaskets and some sealent, tightened the mounting nuts, new cotter pins, sealent on the axle housing and it's all back together.
Now the plate under the pto lever that the larger drain plug is in.It is leaking,I've got the bolts out and it came loose ,but does't want to come off,as something is holding it up.Dont want to bust anything,Do I have to pull the pto shaft again?
thanks jim

That is your hydraulic pump and yes, the PTO shaft goes through it. You need to drain the 5 gallons of tranny/hydro/differential fluid, remove the PTO shaft, then drop the pump. The pump is connected to that plate you see.

:ditto: remove the shaft and a bit of a wiggle it should come on out. When you go back DO NOT use any sealant on the gasket, it has been known to cause them to blow out.

Thanks Dan and John .Hadn't put any fluid back in it yet,so I'll just put a couple of bolts back in the cover and pull the pto again.
On the sealant, does that mean there isn't a breather on the trans-diff case to relieve the pressure?
Thanks jim

There is no breather as such, any pressure that would build up in the housing is minor at best. If the N had a breather then maybe there would be less moisture buildup/contamination of the oil. The reason for not using sealant on the hydraulic pump is that thin gasket is all that holds the pressure from the pump to the tube in the housing.

I reckon the dipstick hole, rear draft linkage and what not provides for plenty of air movement into and out of the sump.. there's your breather and also why moisture finds it's way in when not run up to temps long enough to cook it off.
