I was out on the hunt this morning looking for an old coil for that cast iron tecumseh I am trying to get going for tiller no.1 and in one of my stops an old bud says screw the old tecumseh here buy these from me and slap one of them on
He has two new in the box ( which he won't let me open) 7 hp motors which says made in China but on the shipping labels says from Rato Power Corp USA

Any of you guys run into these engine or using one. Are they worth picking up. Seems like it could be another Honda clone but I cannot see enough to tell
It is a new one for me up here

Price is right at $120 CD ( $90 US) for the pair

Your feedback is greatly appreciated

Cannot find much about them up here other than canadian tire sells them for $259
Did find this online so perhaps it is the same engine as the predator I hear you guys talk about
It is just called Rato 212 cc OHV on the boxes here

"PREDATOR 212 cc", a Harbor Freight label, has been manufactured by several different manufacturers, the most common being Chongqing Rato Power Co. with the Model R210 and Model R210-III.

Hi Mike:
I have been lucky the last few weeks with this stuff for sure. Kind of been out of it other than fixing my own stuff for the past 10 years so lost touch with a lot of the guys in this circle. But lately since I got these tillers I have been making the rounds again and suprised what they have sitting for years
Apparently he bought these motors when they first came out a few years ago thinking he would use them on a customers machine of some sort but it never happened so now just wants them gone.
Not sure what I am going to do with them maybe one on tiller no.1 and the other a spare but for that price now that I know what they are will find room somewhere with me :)
take care
Joe

I've been using one for almost a year now which appears to be identical to the one you pictured. All I can say is so far so good. When I bought it, it was completely unknown as a brand to me but it looked good and I gave it a try. Choke it, starts first crank every time and it runs smoothly and is strong. Time will tell how it does sitting out the winter and comes back in the spring. It's on my old Sears and I use it to tow a tiller which isn't really much load especially since I geared it 2:1 to slow it down. If it's like my experience I thing you're going to be happy with them.

Thanks for the feedback. I have run original honda's since 1985 and love those but these clones are new to me. I will keep you posted also how they work.
My only concern was the angle they will be running at when the tiller is deep but Mike eased my mind on that one. Also now with 2 spares if one blows and for what I have into them one would say who cares. But I hate blowing any engine and in my lifetime only lost one 4 hp tecumseh and that one I knew it was starting to knock and let it eventually toss a rod out the side.
Must have replaced 100 others however for people when I was repairing snowblowers. One tilt back and boom. I could not keep up with them back in the day
Cheers

On tillers with a predator 212cc engine, guys usually raise one side up and add a bit extra oil. the predators have a low oil shut down also so no worry there either.

I have 3 predators now 2 are Hemi's and one isn't. They all start PDQ, work way better than the engine that they replaced.
One on my snow blower will toss wet heavy slushy snow 25 feet.

Thanks for the feedback. These two must be real early ones since they are real close to a honda closer than the others I have bought in the past month and both don't have oil shut down switches plus it looks like the shafts are machined a bit different meaning the back of the step is flush with the engine casting so a tiller pulley would rub if not shimmed.
The manuals in the box say Rato 60-7559-6 not the number I thought above
Cheers
