Hi Guys
I have a Kohler 12 hp 4105313 carburetor that I bought used/rebuilt from a guy on eBay... Well as soon as I installed it and started it up it leaked gas badly. I took the carb off and discovered the bowl gasket was too large. I had a new gasket for it and put it on but then I discovered that there was no clip holding the needle valve to the float. The needle valve was just sitting in the brass thing (don't know what its called) The guy claims there isn't anything connecting the needle valve to the float. Is that correct?

Nope- no retainer on the needle itself.. A fork in the plunger slides thru a slot in the top of the needle and the seat's bore keeps things in place. Now there is sometimes a return spring on the float side of the plunger arm pivot. If the gas is really leaking a lot out of the carb fast check the float for leaks as it will not close the needle valve and let gas overfill things. :goodl:
