Question about rims for the guys out there running 12" wide tires

Okay, so (down the road) Im looking at adding some 26x12 tru powers for my 19.9 and right now I have a spare set of 12x8.5" rims to mount them on. I figure I can mount them on there, but I would like to get the tires as wide as possible, short of buying expensive spun aluminum wheels. I want to find some regular 5 lug wheels that can accommodate wheel weights and stuff.

So I guess my question for you guys who have the bigger GT's who have stock 12" wide tires, what width are your rims? I would like to look for 10 or 10.5" rims to buy.

So I know Cubs, Deeres, Massey Ferguson.. whos got 5 lug, WIDE rims that will be good for some 26x12's? Not looking to buy yet, but planning ahead.

The rim width on my JD is 10.5 inches wide.
Stock rim width for the 12" wide tires seems to be 10.5" on my MF1655's 6 bolt rims. I bought a set that were 12" wide several years ago and the only difference was a little more calcium for weight and the sidewalls were a little straighter, not bulged out quite as much.
Trying to find the 10" wide wheels for sale is like finding a needle in a haystack.I wouldn't put 12" wide tires on nothing less than 10" wide rims but that's just me.The 8 1/2" wide rims bulge the side walls too much and (IMO) ruin the look and amount of tire to the ground.I purchased two sets from Extreme Motor Works (10") and he made the offset to my specs and I couldn't be more satisfied.Trust me I searched for three months solid trying to find a set of used 10" wheels and at least for me I certainly couldn't find any that were for sale. The people that do have them know what they have and almost nobody wants to sell than.Good luck and hope this has helped in some small way or another!!!!!

Well Im in same boat you are Hugh. Ive already got the 26x12's and the spare 12x8.5 rims. I would prefer to have the 10in rim or bigger but like catfishmark said, they are like finding hens teeth. I may have to just reosort to putting them on the small rim.

IF anyone has pics of their 26x12 tires on the smaller rims, lets see them please!!!

Cant say I have... Link??
I know miller sells rims, but I would like to find them used, Im on a budget
I emptied out the water from the wheels of my 2072 last night, gonna put washer fluid in them today.I will take some pics with my new digital camera and show the difference for ya!!!:trink39:
I hope some of these pics will show the difference between 8 1/2" wheels and 10" wheels. The pics were taken in as much of a straight down position as I could get and the tape measure was placed in the exact same position on each set of wheels. The ones with the lowest amount on the tape are the 10" wide wheels and the other with the higher number is the 8 1/2" wide wheels. The difference in the amount of buldging of the sidewall is quiet substantial.Hope this helps!!!!!:goodl:

Thanks for the pics Catfishmark! Those tires look sweet!
Makes me want mine even more haha :fing32: thanks for posting
why don't you just widen them, it won't matter if they come out a little off unless you're running high speed, & it's not that hard to do (or have someone do for you) - do you have a decent local fab shop
Back in my drag race days, we always went with a narrower rim because you can lower the pressure and get more of a footprint front to back. I know I had 12" wide rims on N50 15" tires and had the opposite problem, not enough footprint. That was the thinking anyway.
In the extreme cases I have had, the same 12" wide ag tires on 12" wide puller rims, the side walls were actually wider than the tread, which looked goofy, and you needed a lot of pressure to flatten the tread out. Now they are on 8.5" rims and look great with the tread looking right.
The squarer tread style ags you are talking about would probably work better than these rounded sidewall tread ags on wider rims though.
Just showing what 12" wides look like vs 8.5". with the same tires.

I put 12.00-26 ags on all my tractors. On the 1650 MF I used the stock 9" rims because of interference with the mower gauge wheels if I used a wider rim. It did leave the tire tread rounded more than I'd have liked but works good. A 12.00 tire should have a 10.5" rim which is what they were made for. When I tried to find some used 10.5" rims, it didn't take me long to realize they were hard to find, I bought new ones from Miller Tire. Stock steel 10.5" rims were $89 each if memory serves me right.

That does look goofy.Too much wheel for the tire. But just a little FYI, there is a set of 10 1/2" wide wheels up for auction on e-bay right now.At last check they were $65.00.Good luck!!!!! Oh yea one more thing,If ya do bid on them make sure the 4" offset will fit your application. That might get in the way of disc brakes!!!!!!
