After mowing for a while the clutch fails to engage after being switched off. Sometimes it will engage after switching on and off several times and sometimes not. This started last year or the year before.

Today after it failed I waited about a half hour before sitting on the mower with the ignition turned on but with the engine off. I pulled the PTO switch and heard a soft click immediately followed by a hard click. It did this twice then it would only soft click.

The OHM reading is 4.6.

Clutch problems I read about on the internet were indicated by low OHM readings so what's up with the high 4.6 reading I am getting?

Could the high reading be caused by a soldier repair I made to one of the leads going into the clutch?

I am about to order a new clutch but thought I would throw this out to you guys for some feedback before doing so.

Thanks

I would check the air gap. Free, and easy to do.

I should have mentioned that on this model clutch, 917-04163A, is closed so air gap not visible.
