Put lights on brushguard?

3442 Views 22 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Mackx534
Anyone do this yet? Thinking it may be the perfect spot (for me) to mount a couple of lights for night snowblowing. I know the brushguard can stay on with the snowblower attached on the x5xx series. I do not have a cab so was thinking it it may be a good spot to mount a couple LED lights like the ones from Moble HID.

Anyone do anything similar, or know why this would be a bad idea? :thanku:

I think it's a great idea, do you intend to install the lights on top of the brush guard or inside the big loop?

Think it would be safer to mount them inside the big loop.

It would look cool for sure. :fing32:
If you mount the lights inside the loop, wouldn't they block the headlights? :dunno:
More importantly than appearance, would the chute not get in the way of the light? Seems like mounted high with a slight downward angle would work a lot better for you.

Don't you have those mount points for a canopy on the x5xx? Maybe fabricate some sort of framework to mount them up a bit.

I was thinking of mounting them on the top bar, as high up and wide as possible. This would allow the light from the headlights to still shine through. Maybe mount them on the top and running the wires with a quick-connect in case I decide to take them off after winter.

Anyone know if the brushguard is hollow all the way through? Thinking of running the wiring through it if possible.

This is all just a thought in my head, but it's getting closer to reality. I'm just wondering if anyone has done anything similar and/or has pics of it. :thanku: for any and all thoughts!

You could upgrade the lights in the hood with the P796 35 watt halogen lamps and mount a set of HID on top of the brush guard.

The big loop is hollow, just not sure where the lateral bracket are though.:dunno:

Like that, or even a bit higher. I think from above your head, angled downward would decrease glare a lot.

I LOVE that! Those 4" Mobile HID (or something similar) would fit perfect with those on the tubular bar of the guard.

I have seen a couple other applications using the recessed holes in the dash, but I've been thinking about getting the brushguard anyway. May as well kill two birds w/one stone, right? :fing32:

I made my own brush guard for my 1967 112 rf and mounted lights on it and I love them so I would say go for it.
There you go. Brush guard with LED lights. Holy momma, that would be a cool setup.
I have the brush guard as well and was thinking of something similar. I hated to drill through the brush guard though. I was thinking of removing the mounting bolt that comes with the light and using a hose clamp to through the base of the light and and then around the top rung of the guard. I think keeping the light on top of the guard would be better to throw the light out in front of the blower.

Hey Haulin' Daze,
This is exactly what I plan on doing. I was thinking of mounting more to the top side corners so the light is not blocked by the chute.

Check out that clamp that 396 Big Block found. No drilling needed unless your talking about running the wiring through it like I was wondering.

Now I just have to pay a visit to the JD dealer to order one...
I see them for about $111. Is this right?

Here is what another member "tharrison" did.http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=217871
I remember reading that thread. He did a nice job. By mounting on the guard, the lighs could be even further apart. I would imagine even more light would get around the blowers' chute.
