So i just did one part of the yard with no problem but now the battery light comes on and my pto wont engage. Just had to replace the battery too if thats any significance. Its a jd 318. If anyone has any suggestions id really be thankfull.

Charging system working?
If it's not working, it would explain needing to change the battery and might explain why the battery light is on and if the PTO is electric why it no longer works.

Could be old cables from the battery to the starter and ground, or the VR isn't returning enough electric back to the battery. With the engine running at wide open throttle test across the battery posts you should have 13.8 to 14.5 vdc. If not. I would try new cables then a new VR if that doesn't fix it.
