Mine was disengaging on my 316 - turns out it was a ground wire I had removed while doing some painting and forgot to connect. It would cut in and out, and then finally quit altogether.

Reconnected the ground wire (by the starting solenoid) and it has been fine ever since.

I think I have a charging issue. The battery is not getting charged while the engine is running, so I think it is kicking the clutch out because it doesn't have enough power. I talked to the guy I bought it from and he told me he had to keep it on a battery tender. Is there a way to check the voltage regulator to see if it is working?

I went out and checked a few things. I have 18 volts to the regulator off the stator wires. I am only putting out 13 volts to the battery. I think that it should be around 14-14.5 volts. I think the regulator is bad.
