Gravely 810 40" mower. Runs great under a load, cutting grass 2nd high. Run it on the street 4th high to cut my daughters grass and while on the way runs like crap. It is like some one turns the key off for a second or two and then it comes back runs good for a while and does it again. It is not repeatable and I can't make it happen while idleing or at high engine RPM. I think it may be a safety switch for the PTO or in gear, has not blown a fuse yet??? I don't think it is a fuel problem, but will not rule a fuel problem out.

Thank you for any advice. It may be a few days before I get to it, just had all my wisdom (my case dummy) teeth pulled out yesterday and at 57 years old, I don't want to be bending over.

810's safeties don't affect the engine except to keep it from starting. They are safety interlocks only. Not like the -G units that have a seat safety. You may be getting points bounce due to too wide a points gap or a weak spring. Other cause is sticking carb float or needle.

I have had the float valve stick a few times, a slight tap and starts right up. Looks like I'll have a carb rebuild and a new set of pionts and condenser.

Thanks Don for the info.
