What kind of tape has everyone found to work well in prepping for sandblast. I started with painters tape but I don’t think it will be strong enough to hold up to the sand. Duct tape would be a bear to clean off afterwards.

What are you trying to cover, decals, metal tags, adjoining material?

Any sandblasting that I have done would eat away any tape or leave a very rough edge.

we use a red plastic tape for vapor barrier when doing concrete. It is very "weather worthy" and stick well but can be pealed off. As said though nothing will hold up to sand blasting and give you a clean edge. Tape it off get "close" and hand sand from there.

Vinyl painter's tape comes in various widths. Vinyl electrical tape is a bit thicker and thus more resistant to the impact of abrasives. Any glue residue from either washes off easily with any of several solvents.

Electricians also have a rubber tape that would be impervious to sand blasting. I've used it for a sealer/cushion between the visor and the roof of my van and it peeled right off after I removed the visor. How it would do as an edger without mechanical support is unknown by me. I do know that electricians wrap connections in several layers and then cover it with vinyl tape to keep it from unraveling.
