Hi,
Need some help diagnosing - Coleman Powermate 1850 generator - was rpm surging at operating speed so I pulled carb and soaked it in carb cleaner and reassembled ---- surge has been eliminated, however ...... it now spews fuel out of the vent on the fuel cap, seems like the tank is pressurizing maybe, it's a new tank cap btw.

Is the fuel filled right up to the cap? I'm sure you considered that already. But unless the fuel is right under the cap, I dunno how it would rech the cap such that it would spew out.

Hey Red,

I have an old Powermate 5000 generator. I looked at my gas cap and it has a metal cone inside it - I think this is to deflect gas away from the vent hole. The vent hole does not go through the top of the cap. It apparently vents under the gasket inside the cap.

I think you have to get the correct gas cap, because the gas in the tank "sloshes" violently due to vibration when the engine is running.
