I have a guy interested in my 16/6. He said he has enough cash for my asking price but already has two sears tractors and not enough room for another so i am trying to work a deal with a Sears super 12 with weights and a 3pt and some cash. this is the super- looks rough, but he said it runs good :

James,
That looks like one I saw for sale a couple weeks ago. Does it have a hydraulic lift on the 3 point?

The one I saw had a hydraulic lift on the 3 point, plow, snowblower, a deck maybe and a trailer. The guy was asking $450 for everything. I looked at that one and it was ROUGH.
No hydraulic lift on the 3 point, and no trailer. This one is in CT. He wasn't trying to sell it, but needs to get rid of one to get mine. He has a SS15 too, that i kinda wanted more than the 12, but he started to restore the 15 and i think he wants to keep it.
I think your 16/6 is in way better shape.

it is in way better shape.. I am selling it cause i already have a 1978 GT18 and a 1974 SS16 that i am going to keep. The 16/6 is a restore sell project- This guy is willing to pay what i want for the 16/6, however he already has 2 tractors, and needs to get rid of one of them to buy mine. So as part of the deal i offered to trade this and lower the price a little so we both make out, and i want the wheel weights and 3 point off this anyway. so I still make out in the end. And i think I may restore and keep this one too. i like it :)
oh james just so you know, that is a 68-69 grille style :fing32:
yeah i think he said it was a 68
Looks good. Well, I'm sure it will when you are done with it. I'd say if you can work a trade plus cash, go for it. A lot of potential there. Looking forward to another of your build threads.
i myself think if you want one to restore that one is in nice shape besides the paint. and maybe a set of axle seals because that tractor has the adjustable hubs i call them... but their like a half of a hub compared to your 16/6

yeah i actually have the factor rear out of the 16/6 still, i maythrow it in the SS12 If I get it.
The old trans is only slightly weaker than the newer ones...Untill you get to the splined axles rears I wouldnt mess with swapping them out.....Splined axles are king, keyes axles are all just "weak"....But the newer 73 and up are the better keyed axles...... BUT what your gonna do with it, I dont see a problem!!

it wont hurt but if your not going to do anything serious like making it a pulling tractor i wouldnt take the effort in changing the rear cuz whats in it will work just fine.... maybe swap the hubs if you have problems with the adjustable hubs moving in on you
james, lock one of the rear ends for pulling, plowing, etc change them out as needed.. just an idea?

worst thing to do is to weld a rear to make it a posi in a garden tractor.... searstractorfan knows a good way of making a rear like that without hurting the trans
please excuse my newbness in this area lol i have never worked on the trannys in my tractors. the point was more about making a posi than welding it to do so
thats ok... its no big deal everybody has to learn someplace i wasnt taking your head off for saying it no worries.... i thought the same thing at one time
Deals not gonna happen. He fixed his SS15 and wants to keep that instead of replacing it with My 16/6. :(
If you can find a FEL for it I'll buy both. ;)

If I could find and FEL for it, it wouldn't be for sale
I'm going to look at one off a Ford 8N this weekend to see how close it is to my Yanmar frame width and length wise. If its close, I may break out the cutter and welder.
