Poor clipping discharge

Hello

I have a 2002 42" Sabre 1642HS made by John Deere and have an issue I can not figure out.

Some of the grass clippings will come out the front of the deck and blow into my face. It does this all the time no matter what mow height I have it set to.

I have the mulching setup with the discharge chute blocked and using the Gator mulching blades. It would do this even with the bagger and normal blades.

The deck is level and clean so I do not understand why this is happening.

Any help would be extremely helpful, as I am sick of eating grass clippings :i_praying

Thanks

If the chute is closed off in any way, be it the mulch cover or the bagger, there's going to be some grass blowing out underneath the deck because the swirling air and the grass need to go somewhere and some of it's bound to escape from under the deck. I have the same problem when I use the mulch cover but when I remove it, no more "blow back". LOL
thegrandwazoo, I love your name and signature. I'm a big FZ fan from way back.

Have you tried with no mulching kit or bagger kit at all, and just letting it blow out the side chute the way god intended?

Also, how tall are you letting the grass grow between mowing sessions? If you get too much grass under there, no mulching blade is going to be able to keep up with it and it's got to come out somewhere.

Yes NR I have....and I have tried all combinations....chute plugged, chute unplugged and with the same results...excessive blowout of clippings on the front of the deck.

I just for the heck of it tried it with the bag to pick up lose clippings and it was like a whirlwind throwing out more in the front that out the side.

I thought maybe the new Gator blades were the issue so I made sure they were installed with the fins up and they are...so I am :banghead3 trying to figger this one out.

If it's dry, some stuff might blow out the front as that deck has no front lip. Try lowering the front a bit more (max 1/4" lower than rear) and see if that helps. As thing green up it will probably get better.

I know JD made a "front lip kit" for the 42" decks on LX's to help with this, but it bolted to holes the rolled front lip of the JD-branded yellow 42C decks. I don't think the 2002 Sabre deck had that rolled lip on it...I don't think.
